Sole
Salt is not just salt. Salt contains essential minerals and trace elements that our body needs to function properly. Without salt, the human body cannot produce energy, maintain blood pressure, or even regenerate. Sodium which is an important component of salt, and the one element that most of us associate salt with, is needed to transport nutrients into the cell, where it is being used. Sodium is being depleted all the time by bodily functions, and because of it, it’s important to refill through our diet. However, we have always have been told otherwise. We’ve been told that salt can be harmful, but salt plays a crucial role in our health and is required to maintain the right fluid and electrolyte balance and for propper metabolizm as well as being crucial for muscle and nerve activity. It helps with the regulation of many bodily functions and provides your body with essential electrolytes and minerals, and the fact is that many of us are actually deficient in real salt. When saying real salt I’m referring to celtic sea salt and himalayan pink salt, NOT processed table salt. Celtic salt is said to contain 82 minerals, while himalaya salt is said to contain 72. Table salt is very different than high-quality salt, and not something we should be consuming.
Especially when dealing with stress, salt is important. Not having enough salt is actually considered a stressor for the body by itself. Salt is the number one adrenal healer and it helps your body balance hormones.
What is sole, and what has it to do with salt?
Sole (pronounced so-lay) is a salt water elixir that can be translated as “sun water” due to life and energy it brings to the body. It’s water that has been fully saturated by mineral-rich salt. This isn’t just a small amount of salt dissolved in water, but rather water that has absorbed as much natural salt as it is able and will not absorb any more (26%). When salt dissolves in water, it becomes an electrically charged, concentrated source of minerals, allowing it to nourish your whole body.
Benefits of Sole
Provides Minerals
Sole is rich in important trace elements, minerals and electrolytes. So many people are deficient in important minerals like magnesium, potassium and sodium, which are needed for every function in our bodies, including hormone production. Sole provides these minerals, and many more.
Helps hydration
Minerals are needed to absorb the water we are consuming. This means that if you drink plain tap or bottled water that doesn’t contain any natural or added minerals, you will actually not absorb the water the same way. This can make you feel dehydrated, the opposite of what you think water should do. Drinking lots of water low in minerals, can also further dilute your body. So not only will salt (sole) help you hydrate by actually allowing you to absorb the water that you are drinking, it will also refill important nutrients, which gets flushed out regularly. This way, propper electrolyte and fluid balance are restored.
Promotes hormonal balance
Both the production and the function of hormones needs a variety of different minerals. Whether it’s thyroid, adrenal or sex hormones, improving cellular health will improve your hormonal health.
Supports detox
The minerals in sole boosts the detoxification process that is naturally happening in your body, all the time, including detoxification of excess estrogens that leads to estrogen dominance and hormonal imbalances if not excreted properly.
Supports the adrenals
Your adrenals needs sodium, together with potassium, to function properly. When the adrenal glands are ‘fatigued’, they fail to produce adequate amounts of several hormones, including cortisol and aldosterone. Lack of aldosterone can disrupt the sodium balance at a cellular level which can actually increase your needs for natural sodium and explain the salt cravings many people with ‘adrenal fatigue’ experience. Sole can kick-start your adrenals and help them heal.
Support your immune system
Salt in itself is anti-bacterial and anti-pathogenic which can help fight off foreign and harmful substances in the body.
Improves your metabolizm and thyroid function
Your metabolizm and thyroid needs nutrients to perform it’s vital jobs. Nutrient deficiencies are actually one cause of hypothyroidism or low thyroid function. Sole provides nutrients.
Helps the absorption of nutrients
Sodium is needed to absorb and utilise nutrients by your cells.
Instructions
Fill a glass jar about 1/4 of the way with himalayan salt or celtic salt.
Add water to fill the jar.
Put on the plastic lid or a non-metal lid, and shake the jar gently.
Leave on the counter overnight to let the salt dissolve.
The next day, if there is still some salt on the bottom of the jar, it’s ready to drink.
If all of the salt gets absorbed, as you refill with water, add more. The salt should never be completely dissolved and seeing salt on the bottom of the jar means the water has absorbed its maximum amount of salt. This is how you know the water is completely saturated.
Take a sip 1-4 times a day, or add it into your morning, lemon water.
